Some say the North Jakarta area is a vegan paradise where you can find so many restaurants that offer delicious and affordable vegan foods. One of the forerunners that you might have never heard about is Pranita Rasa. Pranita Rasa was established in 2004 with a humble feel to the place and is very accessible for a good quick meal grab. Run by a generational family, Pranita Rasa puts a sense of home in every meal they serve.

Pranita Rasa is a family-owned vegan restaurant specializing in Chinese and Indonesian Food. The meaning of "Pranita Rasa" is the unique and diverse taste of a monk from the Pali / Sanskrit language which translates to all of their meals. With the intention of giving back to the earth and community, Pranita Rasa also hopes it can help people to go vegan which can help reduce the negative impact on animals and the environment.

"We hope that it will be a ripple effect to make our society more open-minded towards veganism and make it easier for people to enjoy vegan food," mentioned Horich, one of the owners of Pranita Rasa. They also shared with us how their menus came from unique stories in their family. Pranita Rasa started with Horich and his mom, who likes to cook and recreate the food his late grandmother used to cook and create fusion flavors from old school menus with today's foods.

As mentioned before, Pranita Rasa does serve various kinds of menu. From Nasi Goreng, Bakmie, Kwetiau, they also have a buffet where you can choose your side dishes. We find it interesting that they don't use replacement words on the menu, which makes it feel like you're not even in a vegan restaurant even though all of their foods are undoubtedly 100% vegan.

We ordered several menus. We got their Bakmie Ayam Jamur, Bakmie Tiongsim, Kwetiau Kuah Seafood, Nasi Goreng Ikan Asin, and nasi campur. For their plant-based meat, they have two types ? soy-based and mushroom-based. They try not to use mock-meats as many of their customers prefer wholesome meals.

All the meals here are very much worth trying, especially their Bakmie Tiongsim and their Char Siu side dish since it has a similar texture and taste to their counterpart. Also, Kwetiau Kuah Seafood has a lasting impression, although it could be improved by adding more salty flavor to it. Their price ranges from Rp24.000 to Rp.50.000, and it is very affordable for a vegan restaurant. Another proves that being vegan doesn’t always have to be expensive.

Located in Jl. Muara Karang, Jakarta Utara, Pranita Rasa is located strategically and easy to spot as well. With a spacious place to sit, customers are able to dine in with groups of family and friends comfortably! If you want to visit the restaurant, Pranita Rasa is open from 8 am to 6 pm every day. Make sure to say hello to the sleeping cat in front of Pranita Rasa when you do visit!
