From food processing, transportation, delivery, packaging, and more, the F&B business is responsible for 13.52 billion tonnes of global CO2 emissions. With these global issues in mind, The Acre realized they should not contribute more emissions to the environment, so they decided to take a leap forward by collaborating with Bumiterra, an environmental service focusing on managing carbon offsets for businesses, and become Indonesia’s first carbon-neutral cafe.
The Acre, as it may seem like any other ordinary cafe, carries a big mission that will do good for the environment by making all items on its menu carbon-neutral - the first cafe in Indonesia to be able to do this down to Scope 3! That means The Acre is able to remove an equivalent amount of CO2 that it releases from its business activities, including those that are released by its customers! Taking the step even further, to celebrate World’s Environment day on June 5th, The Acre and Bummitera are also launching an Earth-friendly menu. From Falafel Salad to Vegan Carrot Cake, customers who visit The Acre can now enjoy a full range of menus that are carbon-neutral and also vegan!
The new Earth-friendly menu features Banana Fritter, Falafel Salad, Avocado Toast, Vegan Mushroom Ragu Spaghetti, and Vegan Carrot Cakes. We had the pleasure to try all of these dishes, and we were surprised with how very well-thought-of and flavorful the dishes were! Starting with the Banana Fritter, whether enjoyed as an appetizer or dessert, the fritter is definitely a must-try! It has the right sweetness and is perfectly fried.
The Falafel Salad, which we think should get a much more exciting name really stood out and was very refreshing. The Falafel was crispy on the outside and had a smooth consistency on the inside. The greens, roasted pepper, and dressing were fresh and made such an impeccable dish! For a more sophisticated option and breakfast-friendly menu, they have Avocado Toast, a classic combination of toasted sourdough with a freshly made smashed avocado topped with arugula salad.
If you are feeling peckish and want to grab lunch or dinner that doesn’t disappoint, go for the Vegan Mushroom Ragu Spaghetti! It’s savory, flavorful, and very fulfilling! And to top it off, get a slice of their Vegan Carrot Cakes. Other than their collaboration with Bumiterra, The Acre commits to a number of other sustainability practices to support their partnership program. The Acre re-cooks their unused raw materials and ingredients for employee meals. Their ingredients are also locally-sourced, as well as their woodwork furniture, designed and built by local craftsmen and artisans.
